HAPPY NEW YEAR 2012
GIGI DAGOSTINO, LUCA NOISE & ELENA TANZ
Well, Heinz, the night was totally awesome. I could not believe that I would hear such classic, die hard lento on stage like that. It was well worth the 5 hour drive (and the damn 15 km of traffic jam).
Anyways, we arrived at around 21:00 at Altenburg and met some GFU people and Mads Pedersen (all the way from DK) at an Italian restaurant. We went to the Golden Pflug about 22:00. Gigi was supposed to appear around 23 and finally did show up at a little after midnight. I did not know what to expect with a relative mixed German crowd but, boy, did Gigi set the stage quickly with Mi sta sulla cassa and Pioggia e Sole right after. The bass made the building and probably half the town jump up and down.
Overall, Gigi did a very diverse show. Classics like Lamour Toujours (including the 2003 piano version), Moonlight Shadow, La Passion, Bla Bla Bla, Wellfare, and Ripassa were played. He also played his Angels, My Heart will Go On, and Komodo remixes. The few mainstream tracks (not really my thing) were a We are the Champions remix, a Beach Boys Barbara Ann remix, and the ever present Skrillex Make it bun dem remix. This is how far I can remember. He played for a good two hours and we left a little before 3. We were back home at 8 and with enough coffee and Red Bull in my system I somehow survived the day and subsequent Halloween party (where I got to play some of the tracks I heard at the show).
If Gigi makes it back to Germany or the neighboring northern countries next year, I will definitely be back.
Thank you so much for writing your impressions Andrea, I'm glad you liked so. A long time ago I'm not going to a Gigi's live and I have really wanted haha.
Maldestra, if you read this post tell us what you want about the concert ;)
I'm happy it was worth it! Looks like the germans still like it too ... so he didn't play the intro version of L'Amour Toujours? :/ would love to hear that one live <3 (+ many others)
Sounds like a really nice trip, I've been talking to Laeske about either going to Italy next year or do a road trip next summer... last time I saw gigi live was in 2007 I think, we'll see - it's not likely he will visit Scandinavia again but Germany and The Netherlands isn't that far
Well as a more veteran Gigi-goer I'll try to share my experience
1600 km in total and, also in my opinion, Gigi did not disappoint!
My brother, his friend and I drove 8:30 from Horsens and thanks to a clever GPS we went outside of all traffic jams, albeit going off the autobahn. But we arrived around 18:00, no problem. Our hotel was placed 24 km away from Altenburg so we drove not long after and arrived at the restaurant around 20:00.
I have been a member of GFU for 7 years but it was (almost) the first time meeting these guys (and GFU newcower, Andrea:D). For me this was really one of the greatest things about the evening. We left the restaurant around 10, but sadly my brothers friend became sick so my brother drove him back to the hotel. I did however convince my brother to come back later.
Yes Gigi was fashionably late as always, I hope you were not afraid he'd not turn up, Andrea?
During the evening I met even more GFU's for the first time ever!
As Andrea said he started with Mi Sta Sulla Cassa and Pioggia E Sole. But Gigi is very clever! It wasn't the original versions. It was instrumental remix' which worked brilliantly with the German crowd. They both are great songs and especially the full version of Mi Sta Sulla Cassa is a great opener, but there is really no point in introducing too much Italian lyric to the Germans.
Additional songs I can remember, the new version of The Riddle, which kicks the ass of the old Get Up:)
Oscillazione Dag, after I waved my Gigi hoodie at him with the Lento Violento side forwards. He actually went from a non lento song to it after I did that
Narcotic with vocals, very nice!
In The End remix way better than the 2006 cammino version
Ein Zwei Polizei. A no brainer!
Hymn
Pai Pai Pai, with Put your hand up in the air¨vocals, very very nice!!
Un Giorno Credi where GFU and the hardcore fans screamed their lungs out!
Generally I would say it was a very brave choice of tracks. He included far more lento than I would even have dreamt of. But it really worked with the Germans, very pleasant surprise. Except for the fact that he didn't include many songs with Italian lyric, this could just as well have been in Italy! I am very impressed, he is still the king. No doubt about it!
The only times I have seen more progressive/less mainstream, choices of tracks were at Centrale Del Latte in 2008 and 2010.
Those lives are however also in a league of their own because 99% of the visitors are hardcore fans from Casa dag. That tracklist would have been too bold to play in Germany, heck, also in Italy with less than 50 % hardcore fans.
My point is. It was brave and brilliant by any standard.
Gigi ('s staff) also handed out his new Gigi D'Agostino Light, polystyrene glowsticks
On the downside, I would say that the audio system wasn't the best. The bass was actually to dominating, yes, heresy I know that. Most of the time it was to overpowering and drowned the middle and treble frequencies. Especially with a song like In The End it was obvious. When I heard it at East Ends in 2011 everything was balanced. I could clearly hear the vocals and my body were still ripped apart by the bass.
Off course I blame Goldener Pflug for this as it was also a problem in the warm-up.
It was however quite ok right in the middle right in front of the scene where I spent most of the 2 hours!
After he left I finally got and autograph after all these times, something I haven't even tried yet :D
We made a nice GFU group photo afterwards and departed.
Regarding your plans, CFE and Laeske, I'll say go for it!
I was actually surprised how much more energized I was after driving all the way, compared to flying. In 2008 we flew the same day as we went to CdL and it was too exhausting. So I would actually consider driving all the way to Italy next time, combining it with a vacation probably.
EDIT: An extra video
Thanks Maldestra for taking your time to write your "vision".
Nice story and funny with all the GFU fans - some of them should come here
Yeahhhh !!!

It was not my favorite show. It was too short (125 minutes).
Gigi arrived 45 minutes late, because the plane had a delay (i think because the night was extremely foggy). No time to check the speakers, and there were two additional speakers mounted for the occasion, that really ruined the sound quality of the party. In every pump of the kick there was a Trrr Trrr sound, and the sound was somewhat distorted and erased, a pity.
He put many current hits, that i really dont like, like animals, tsunami....
But on the other hand was good to hear his classic songs and some new remix.
The trip was a real hell, halfway both going there and coming back was very foggy and ice on the road. I drove at 60 km / h average...
After the live, gigi went away really quick because of the cold (-3Cº), so i couldnt talk with him.
