Interview with C.Y.T. - 5th Oct 2006

IDP: Hello C.Y.T.! For those who don't know you, can you tell us about yourself, please?

C.Y.T.: First of all hi to all IDP users & members, thanx for inviting me to do this interview!

My real name is Dominik Cydlik. Since 2000 I’m a fix part of the ARC-Records team. Apart from my function as ARC Creative & Foreign Affairs Director and A&R of our internal label I’m mainly responsible for programming, arranging, composing, writing lyrics and vocal & remix coaching. Since 2006 am also doing our “ARC IN THE MIX” radio shows and mega-mixes for several compilations.

Besides producing nearly all ARC projects (such as Deep.Spirit, Fantasy Project, Dancefire, Deejay Anady, DJ The Bass, Bass Up!, DJ Delta, El-Tone, DJ The Wave, Cera, La Dance Inc., Nina S., Kathy McLean, Deejayz United, No Risk etc.) with my studio partner Roland Binder & the team members of the different projects with project “C.Y.T.” (spoken: “see why tea” which is also a nick name of my last name) I dedicate particularly to my preference for italodance. Until now I did remixes for Magic Box, Erika, DJ Lhasa, Ruslana (Song Contest Winner), The Usual Suspects (No 1 Dance Act Singapore) and many others…

IDP: What music styles are you listening to other than what you produce?

C.Y.T.: I listen to all kind of music since every style could be inspiration for my work.

IDP: Who is/are your favorite artist(s)?

C.Y.T.: I think there are many artists who influenced my work, referring to italodance I like all great italo productions around 2000 and earlier.

IDP: What do you think about the future of Italo Dance music?

C.Y.T.: Very difficult question since italodance is not in its best moment nowadays. Many producers, labels, radios etc. changed to other styles motivated by business thoughts. It’s a disaster.

The problem is that music industry does not support the style anymore. As italo producer it’s very hard to survive when your songs are not played by DJs, radios etc. when you are not available at shops or promoted or if your artist is not having acts, you cannot sell or people don’t know you. It’s a neverending circle.

Music business is only following trends. Everyone’s doing “what’s IN” (e.g. cover versions). That’s the wrong way and a way without thinking about music.

I really hope that known italo artists, labels, radios will realise soon that it’s maybe not the best to swim with the crowd and lose identity but return back to the roots. Then I see a light at the end of the tunnel…

IDP: What do you like to do on your spare time?

C.Y.T.: What is spare time? hehe…don’t have a lot of it cause music business keeps busy and there’s always something to do…when I have a bit of time I mainly relax or go out to discos to be up to date. Sometimes I play soccer or computer games.

IDP: What are your plans for the future?

C.Y.T.: We want to move something! We will go on producing italodance and support this style and we’ll follow our strategy doing own quality compositions & productions avoiding cover versions. I do not have special plans, the most important thing is that people like our music and support it. Then there will always be something interesting to do which makes sense Smile

IDP: What news can you reveal for us about your future productions?

C.Y.T.: At the moment we have a new hands up single out in Germany (Andorfine) called “BASS UP!-Hold me back”. Then the first C.Y.T. Album (Best Of Mixes & Remixes) was recently released in Asia as part of a compilation (Masterplate Vol. 2) and imported to Europe.

At the moment we are working on new DEEP.SPIRIT songs, the follow up single of “The one that I want” should be released soon. Furthermore we have some new italo-cooperations, ARC will reload “LUCHETTA & DANTE-Viaggio al centro del mondo” with new ARC remixes, then we signed a new italo-project from France called “EMIXFAIR-Love from a star”, ARC remixes pop idol MAIA LEE from Singapore (Leonard T. feat. Maia Lee – Go!) and the single of another pop idol finalist and shooting star also from Singapore.

After good international feedbacks singles of “DANCEFIRE-Star” and “EL-TONE-With or without you” are in preparation.

Next compilation project will be the Asian top compilation “BEST 2006” incl. C.Y.T. Megamix. A new italo compilation project for Asian market is in preparation.

IDP: What do you think about our site (italodanceportal.com)?

C.Y.T.: Nice design and very informative. That’s how a promo site should look like. I can only recommend it Smile

IDP: Thanks for the interview, C.Y.T.! Is there anything else you want to tell our community?

C.Y.T.: Thanx for your support! Let’s keep italodance alive!
